The common goal that Sofia Municipality seeks to achieve in its communication and transport infrastructure policy is based on an integrated approach addressing the transport sector as a whole and in the interconnection of the different transport modes that compete and interact with each other. Improving the communication and transport infrastructure will achieve a new standard of urban environment and will improve the public health. Among the priorities is the development of intermodal connections between the different urban transport modes and coordination with international transport (with guaranteed unhindered access to national and pan-European transport networks).

Steps have been taken in the recent years for a staged fleet renewal with vehicles that include 126 articulated buses MAN Lion's City G CNG, 110 single buses Yutong, new trolleybuses and trams of different types and brands. The new vehicles are equipped with air conditioners and platforms for people with disabilities, which ensures more comfortable passenger service.
